Jesus is Wonderful

23 December 2013

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. - Isaiah 9:6
Wonderful

There are over 100 names or titles given to the Savior in the Bible. This verse contains five of the most amazing titles as it prophesies of the coming of Jesus.

The English language is a funny thing. Sometimes it means what it actually says. This word "wonderful," that is used so flippantly today, actually means "full of wonder!" Everything about Jesus is an inexplicable miracle. When we consider this, all we can do is glory in His wonder!

His birth was a wonder. Jesus is the eternal King and yet He came to the earth as a little babe, born miraculously of a virgin. How? It is a glorious mystery.

He was a wonder for those who witnessed His baptism by John in the River Jordan. God spoke from heaven and declared who Jesus was and His Fatherly pleasure in Him. Cool!

The life and ministry of Jesus was full of these wondrous miracles. He healed the sick. He caused the lame to walk. He made the blind to see. He caused the deaf to hear. He drove demons out of those vexed with spirits. He even raised the dead! Amazing!

He was wondrously silent at His trial before Pilate. He could have called on more than 70,000 angels to deliver Himself. Yet, He chose to remain silent as the sentence due to you and me was pronounced against Him. Wow!

The miracle of His resurrection is our only hope of glory. He burst forth from the tomb and bruised the head of Satan! He bruised the head of sin. He bruised the head of death and the grave. Hallelujah!

He is coming again and every eye will see Him at the same time (Revelation 1:7). He has shown awesome and wonderful power before. But on that day, all creation will see Him in His full glory and splendor. And what shall we say that day?

Jesus is wonderful!
