Fellowship

19 July 2014

"And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers." (Acts 2:42)

Here is a logical supposition.

God is a Triune Being. He has fellowship within Himself.

We are made in the image of God.

Therefore, we are designed to have fellowship.

The children of God prosper when they are in fellowship with other believers!

By nature, I am a loner or a recluse. My natural inclination is to be by myself and with my own thoughts. However, that is the key. This is my human nature.

When I am obedient to the Spirit of God dwelling in me, I overcome my loner attitude and go to more church meetings, go to church gatherings, and invite more people into my home. And you know what I find out?

I am joyful!

My old nature may want to be alone but that does not feed the inner man. When I am alone, it is all about me, me, me. And that is dangerous. It leads to depression, discouragement, and will inevitably lead to me doing something that I should not do.

The early church spent a lot of time together. They were not distracted by all the entertainment and leisure things we have today. They found comfort and rest in having casual fellowship with other believers. This promoted a greater focus on righteous living, Bible study, and energetic worship. In other words, it gave them joy in the Lord!

There are times when we need to be still and quiet. But those times are not be spent alone focusing on ourselves. That is our one on one time with God. We are having fellowship with God at that time.

As you seek to improve your worship of our Awesome Redeemer, consider the importance of the fellowship of the saints. You may have things in common with your coworkers but those interests will fade in the grave. You hold something in common with other believers that is much more precious. You share an inheritance that will never fade away. You share in the eternal joy of Jesus Christ!

Why not live your eternal life with other children of God now?
