"I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one." (1st John 2:13b; 14b)

John’s message to those currently in the throws of spiritual battle is to “FIGHT ON!”

He reminds us that we HAVE won before and we have the strength to overcome temptation and the devil again. We are to be courageous and continue to battle.

However, if you are like me, you sometimes forget past victories and get very discouraged. John knows that this dismay often comes on the Lord’s people so he reminds us that we are not alone in the battle.

Our strength is not our own. Christ is in us! Therefore, by the power of God, we CAN overcome!

And not only that. We need to remember that we are already “more than conquerors” through Jesus. We may falter at times but Jesus has already won the war!

I’m reminded of the old hymn lyrics:

“Since Christ the Lord has won the field, We are determined not to yield!”
