"That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; (for the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) that which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Juesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.” (1st John 1:1-3)

One of the major themes that John spirals throughout this epistle is fellowship.

John discusses fellowship with God as well as fellowship with other believers in the church.  The purpose of John's letter is to help the reader learn more about the character and nature of Jesus Christ. John says this knowledge is the foundation of fellowship that he has with any other person. 

Then, John reminds us that when we have fellowship with him (or other believers) about the true nature and identity of Christ, we are actually having fellowship with Jesus through the brethren at that very moment!

We all seek joy in our lives. John tells us that our lives can be full of joy. The key is to learn more about Jesus in fellowship and study with other believers. The key is active involvement in church!

When we do this, we are actually experiencing fellowship with God Himself. And there is no greater joy than to be in harmony with the Lord!
