Everlasting Kingdom
17 September 2014
"From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Matthew 4:17)
The last point I would like to make about the kingdom of heaven established by Jesus during His earthly ministry is that it is an everlasting kingdom.
"And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure." (Daniel 2:44-45)
The kingdom of heaven set up in the time of the Roman Empire was not left in the hands of men. Jesus reigns as King in His church. He is the Stone cut from the mountain without hands that destroyed the Roman Empire and will destroy every other earthly kingdom that comes against Him. This kingdom, as Daniel said, shall "never be destroyed."
Jesus Himself told us, "the gates of hell shall NOT prevail" against His church!
The headlines grow worse everyday. The fear of terrorism and murder fill the news. But Oh Christian! Remember, Jesus reigns! He reigned and brought down Rome. He has reigned and brought down every enemy since Rome. He will do the same today!
Finally, He will bring down that last enemy, death. And we shall be with Him forevermore in the everlasting kingdom of heaven!
