Astonished By Jesus

22 September 2014

"And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: 10 and so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men." (Luke 5:6-10)
amazed

When we read about the things that Jesus did while He dwelt among men here on earth, do we really consider the facts about what happened?

People who were born blind were made to see perfectly! The lame were made to run. Those sick with various blood illness were healed instantly. Devils were cast out of those possessed. The dumb were made able to speak. He raised the dead!

These things actually happened! And it astonished the people who were witnesses.

How do we react to Jesus today? Are we astonished?

Some will scoff and say that they would be amazed as well if they saw these things but Jesus just isn't working in our lives anymore.

Really?

Another miracle of Jesus is that the gospel was preached to the poor in spirit. The Bible lists this right along with the other miracles of Jesus. Is not the gospel still preached today?

Should we not then be astonished every time a man of God faithfully preaches to us the soul healing words of our Redeemer? Should would not still stand amazed and astonished that Jesus died for us on the cross and gave us the glorious message of the gospel to set us free from the chains of doubt and fear?

Yes, my brethren. We SHOULD be astonished with our Lord even today!
