The Extraordinary Power of Jesus

3 September 2014

"Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee. For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country. Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilæans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast. So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum." (John 4:43-46)

While moving onto his next subject, John gives us a few details about the travels of Jesus. There is one phrase in his account that is truly remarkable to me. It's not really the words that are said but the manner in which they are recorded that is so amazing to me.

"So Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine."

John mentions this miracle almost as a passing detail. It is not that he considered it an insignificant event. John simply records it as a "regular" detail about the life of Jesus Christ.

Now that is amazing!

It is just a regular thing for Jesus to be able to turn water into wine! I can't do that, can you?

But isn't that the point of John's gospel account? He is showing proof after proof that Jesus is God. Therefore, an event such as turning water into wine is no "big deal" for God.

Was it difficult for Jesus to perform this miracle? No, because He is God.

Is it any less amazing?

Certainly not! It is an amazing proof that our Redeemer Christ IS the Son of God!
