A Deeper Love For Christ
23 January 2015
"And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit."(1st John 3:19-24)
Having confidence in Christ is an often misunderstood concept. It does not look like arrogance. Nor does it mean that you get every material thing you ask of the Father. This confidence is a very strong peace that no one can take from you.
Having a "good" conscience means that we have one that works properly. Our heart condemns us when we sin and encourages us when we do right. Therefore, if we have joy when we show love to another person, that is clear evidence to us that the truth is in us. If the truth is in us, then we ARE the sons of God. Therefore, we have confidence in the blood of Christ.
Our confidence before God is not in our ability to do good things. We have confidence that the blood of Jesus was shed for us when we love others and feel the truth in us. Our actions bear witness to ourselves so that we can learn to trust Christ more.
This behavior can become a beautiful spiral moving us deeper and deeper into fellowship with God.
The more we love others, the more that we KNOW we are loved by Him.
