The Will of Christ

6 July 2015

"When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed." (Matthew 8:1-3)

A lot of time and attention is given to the will of man when it comes to salvation and religion. However, the Bible shows a greater regard for the will of God than of man!

In this passage, the man had a will to be healed but he understood that his personal will meant nothing because he did not have the power to fulfill his will. Therefore, he acknowledges that he must trust solely in the power and will of Jesus to heal him.

And so it is with salvation. As we have already seen, this account is a fulfillment of Isaiah 53. That prophecy links the will and power of Christ with His will and power to save.

Our will means nothing if it is not God's will.

When we reconcile our minds to the glory of God's sovereignty, we will find it the only hope we have. And we can then find pleasure in God's sovereignty just as He does.

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved."(Ephesians 1:3-6)
