"Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, that ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand." (2nd Thessalonians 2:1-2)
One of the most common ways that modern "Christians" attempt to coerce people into believing is to scare them the warning of the return of Jesus Christ. This tactic is not new. It was wrong then, and it is wrong now.
Yes, the Lord is coming back. Yes, we will be gathered together in a general resurrection to stand before Him. But these two facts should not cause us to fear or worry.
Fiction writers have perverted the true comfort of the doctrine of the resurrection for personal glory, fame, and wealth. These lies have convinced many of God's people that the return of the Lord is to be feared and books like Revelation are to be interpreted by those special few who can unlock the secrets.
LIES. LIES. LIES.
First of all, we are taught throughout the entire Bible that the return of the Lord Jesus Christ is a thing that believers should look for and have hope. If the things being taught don't give hope, then they are not the gospel!
Further, when the children of God stand before the judgment seat, they will not have their personal sins listed out against them. God will count the perfect righteousness of Jesus Christ to them, and they shall immediately enter glory!
