“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” 1st Thessalonians 5:21

Everything that comes into our lives should be judged by the word of God. The Bible is our rule for discerning what God defines as good or bad.

If something is contrary to the Bible, we should remove it from our lives. If something agrees with the Bible, we should hold onto it and let nothing take it from our hands or lives.

Many people lead very passive lives. They allow influences to come into their lives without examining them closely. These people are caught in a “reaction cycle.” They must continually react to things that come into their lives. This can make you very uneasy and give you a feeling of defensiveness all the time.

Paul teaches us to not be passive in our lives. We should be actively engaging one another in love. And at the same time, we should examine the outside stimuli that come at us to see whether these things will aid or hurt our discipleship.

If we fill our time with study of God’s word and quality Christian fellowship, we will not give space for the evil influences that the devil entices us with in the world.
