“For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? For ye are our glory and joy.” 1st Thessalonians 2:19-20

Paul was hindered from fellowshipping with the brethren at Thessalonica by the Jews who were influenced by Satan. Yet, his desire to be with them grew more and more.

Why did Paul desire to be with people in area where he could be killed?

In a sense, Paul was ready to start living the eternal fellowship of the resurrection with these brethren THIS side of glory!

The fellowship of believers in church gives us just a taste of what it will be like after the Lord’s return. Resurrection morning will usher in a never-ending day of celebration and joy with our Bridegroom. We will be in the presence of our Savior and in perfect fellowship with the countless saints of God. That is pure joy!

Paul’s true joy is the same as ours. His joy is in Jesus Christ. Paul reminds us in this passage that we can experience that joy now. And the way we lay hold on this joy is to fellowship with the saints in church just like we will fellowship with them in eternal glory.
