Jesus Is The Prince of Peace

30 December 2013

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. - Isaiah 9:6
Prince of Peace

The final name given to our Savior in this verse is "Prince of Peace." When the angels of heaven sang to the shepherds, "Peace on the earth," they were not simply hoping the Jesus would bring peace between men and nations. No, the army of the host of heaven was shouting that their Captain, Whose very name is Peace, was coming to earth! The good will toward men was an action that He was going to perform on their behalf. Jesus was coming to make peace between God and man, a task impossible for any ordinary man to accomplish.

A prince is the son of a king. Typically in battles of old, the king would send out his first son as the captain and prince of his army. The job of the prince was to win the battle that the king had waged. In the case of Jesus, He is the Prince of Peace which means His Father sent Him to wage war on the things that prevented peace from existing between God and His children. On the cross, Jesus defeated the enemies of God and His children: sin, death, and the grave. And, as Isaiah would later record:

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. - Isaiah 53:5

Jesus took the punishment for our sins that we were due. In doing this, we were blessed with peace with God!

What awesome and mighty power we have found in these five sacred names of our Savior. I pray that we all remember the power and love the God showed to us in Christ so that we are willing to be all in for Him!
