"But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ." (2nd Thessalonians 2:13-14)
This passage uses the word "chosen" but not in the same sense as "chosen before the world began" in Ephesians Chapter 1. In fact, Paul even uses a different Greek word in these two places. In Ephesians, God "chose out" from the whole of humanity a vast number of people in Christ, and this happened before the world began, or BEFORE the beginning. In 2nd Thessalonians, God showed "preference" to these elect by blessing them with the mercy to believe the gospel FROM the beginning of Paul's ministry.
Paul calls this great blessing a salvation that they were called to by his preaching. This clearly shows a timely salvation whereby the young church was made able to gain a very quick understanding of the glory of Jesus Christ in sovereign grace.
